ELECTRONICS NOW BANNED FROM PICKUP
As of Jan. 1, 2012, electronic items such as cell phones, televisions, DVD players and the like can no longer be sent to landfills in Illinois. This means that if you put one of these at the curb for garbage pickup, or include any in your trash, the driver will not be able to take it. Do not put it into your recycling bin -- it must be discarded separately. If you have something that still works, please consider donating it to a charity. Otherwise, you must take the items back to a store where they are sold, or to an approved collection spot such as Kane County’s monthly electronics recycling events. There is no charge for this recycling service. For a complete list of prohibited electronic devices, click here. For information about Kane County’s electronics and book recycling program, click on

HOLIDAY SCHEDULE
Waste Management recognizes only six holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day (Fourth of July), Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas .
If your regular pick-up day falls on one of these holidays, your trash service will be delayed one day.
If the holiday falls on a Saturday, then there is no change in service. If the holiday falls on a Sunday, it is observed on the Monday. If you normally have a Monday pick-up, then your trash will be collected on Tuesday.
If you have any questions, please call Waste Management at 800-796-9696.

WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR RECYCLING?
Have you ever wondered what happens to your recycling once the truck picks it up? Here is a link to a Waste Management website that includes a video showing the sorting process:
Go to www.thinkgreen.com and enter "recycling facility" into the small search box at the top right. That will take you to another screen called "What Happens to My Recyclables?" Take a look at the video on Single Stream Recycling, and you’ll see what happens at a sorting facility similar to the one that processes the recycling that is collected from Campton Township.

DID YOU KNOW?
You can
recycle used household batteries (C, D, AA,
AAA , 9V) by securing them in
a small ziptop bag and putting it out on your
regular collection day on top of your recycling
bin. Do not discard them inside the bin.
Your recycling bin needs a clearance of 3 feet all around in order for the automated truck to collect and empty it. Please be sure it's well away from your mailbox, your garbage bins, and other objects that might get in the way of the truck's collection arm. |

PRESCRIPTION DRUG DISPOSAL
You've probably heard about contamination of our water supply
by discarded prescription drugs that have been flushed down the
drain. Medications can end up in rivers, streams or in this area,
people's wells. These can also leach out from landfills, so should
never be thrown into the trash. What to do with them? Another
big problem is misuse of medications sitting around the house
by children or others.
Both the St. Charles and Geneva Police Departments now collect
prescription drugs for safe and environmentally
responsible disposal. Self-contained, secure disposal
units are located in the lobbies of each station
and are available during business hours in St.
Charles and 24 hours a day in Geneva. All prescription
pill and liquid medications in original containers
are accepted. It is recommended that labels and
personal information be removed or defaced. (Important!
No illegal drugs, needles, sharps or syringes
are accepted. For information on safe disposal
of needles and sharps, see below.)
The St. Charles Police Station is located at 211 North Riverside Ave. (formerly known as First Ave.) two blocks north of Route 64. The Geneva Police Department is located at 20 Police Plaza, one block south of Route 38; turn east off Route 31 onto James Street.
Alternatively, you can bring unused and expired drugs to the hazardous waste facility in Naperville. For more information about household hazardous waste, click here.
For safe disposal of needles and sharps, Waste Management provides a home collection receptacle program. Call them at 800-796-9696 for more information.
